5 Day Lesson Plan
Lesson Plan Title: Objects Composition and Physical Properties

A- Analyze your learners
The learners in this lesson plan will be created for students in a second grade science class.

The Sunshine State Standards this lesson will address are:

1). SC.A.1.1.1: The student knows that objects can be described, classified, and compared by their composition (e.g., wood or metal) and their physical properties (e.g., color, size, and shape).

2). LA.C.1.1--The student uses listening strategies effectively.

3). LA.A.1.1--The student uses the reading process effectively.

4). LA.A.2.1--The student constructs meaning from a wide range of texts.

S- State your Objectives

With a given PowerPoint provided by the teacher, the students will take notes on objects and their different compositions and physical properties, and then should be able to describe, classify, compare, and record objects by their composition and their physical properties by the end of the day.

Examples shown from a short video made by the teacher, students should be able to group objects according to similarities or differences of their physical characteristics by the third day of class.

After the reading the designated pages in the textbook assigned by the teacher the students should be able to finish a worksheet that is provided by the teacher on the different observable and measurable properties, and grouping objects according to similarities or differences of their physical characteristics by the beginning of the fifth day of class.

The Blooms Taxonomy that will be involved in this lesson plan is comprehension, analysis, knowledge and application.

S- Select Media and Materials

Science Textbook
Pen/Pencil
Projector Screen
Microsoft PowerPoint
Windows Movie Maker
Computer

U- Utilize Media and Materials

Using the computer and projector screen, the teacher is able to show the PowerPoint to introduce the students to all matter that has measurable, observable properties. The students will take notes in their notebook on what the teacher have shown them on the PowerPoint.

The students will use their science textbook to read the given material and also write down a couple of new things they have learned in their notebook.

Using the computer and projector screen again, the teacher is able to show the video that was created using Windows Movie Maker to help teach the students how to group objects according to similarities or differences of their physical characteristics.

R- Require Learner Participation

The students will be shown a video and as a class will be able to discuss amongst each other the different or the same physical characteristics of objects.

After reading the assigned material, the students will be working in groups to discuss with each other on what they read and also on what they wrote down in their notebook.

As a class, we will have a discussion on everything they have learned from the PowerPoint, video, textbook, and from their fellow classmates. The teacher will also answer any questions that the students may have.

E- Evaluate and Revise

After the fifth day of class, the students will be evaluated on how correctly they completed the worksheet that was assigned to them by the teacher on the different observable and measurable properties and how to group objects according to similarities and differences of their physical characteristics. The students will also be evaluated on how they interacted with one another and how well each student participated in all the class discussions.
